Care Tips
Wood wick candles are lovely, but it's important to remember they don't burn like regular cotton wick candles do. We often have customers share stories about how they've never been able to get other wood wick candles to work properly. Here are a few care tips to help your wood wick candle stay lit, last longer, and avoid tunneling.
-
Burn your wood wick candle for approximately three hours, or until the melt pool reaches the edges of the container. This prevents tunneling around the wick.
-
If you must blow out your candle before the melt pool has extended to the edges of the container, merely put it in the oven on low. The wax will even out after a few minutes.
-
Avoid burning your candle for more than three hours, as this will cause the wick to burn too hot. This decreases the overall burn time of your candle.
-
Trim your wood wick to approximately 1/8" after each burning to assist with relighting. The wick may not stay lit if it is too far removed from the wax. This will also prevent unwanted wax discoloration from the soot.
-
Expect some "snowflaking" across the surface of the wax after burning. The wax may not settle evenly, especially if you move the candle while it is hot. This is a natural effect and adds yet another element of charm.
-
Some scents naturally cause soy wax to change colors when exposed to UV light. You may notice a slight yellowing over time; this is completely natural and doesn't impact the functionality of your candle.
-
For your safety, wood wick candles extinguish when the wick reaches 3/8" from the bottom of the container. You will need to clean out the remaining wax.
